- Part 1: food, water and a safe place to rest. All animals need food in order to live and grow, and all living things need water (NGSS K-LS1-1).
- Part 2: thirsty dog: water; hungry dog: dog food; sleepy dog: a bed.
- Part 3: grapes N, plain carrot S, chocolate N, plain apple slice without seeds S, onion N. The ASPCA lists grapes, chocolate and onions as foods to keep away from pets; the American Kennel Club lists plain carrots and apple slices (without seeds or core) as safe treats in moderation.
